If there is a lump, a voice change, or one-sided swelling
Do not wait for a routine cosmetic appointment. A new or changing lump in the neck, difficulty swallowing, a persistent change in the voice, swelling on one side only, or a neck that has become tender and red needs medical assessment. If there is difficulty breathing, that is an emergency rather than an appointment. Say what you have noticed when you call, so that the right clinic sees you.
Arranging an ordinary assessment
Where the change has been gradual and there is none of the above, appointments are made through the hospital outpatient line or through the appointment service described on the appointments page. Say when booking that the question is about the neck. If you are travelling from outside Chongqing, say so, because the assessment and any tests can sometimes be arranged across fewer visits.
What to bring
Bring a record of your weight over the last two years if you have one, any previous facial or neck procedures, a list of your current medicines and allergies, and the names of any conditions you are being treated for. Old photographs of your face and neck are more useful than you would expect, because they show whether the change has been gradual or has always been there.
What happens at the consultation
Expect an examination rather than a presentation. The skin is pinched and released, the platysma is examined at rest and while you tense the neck, the fat is placed relative to the muscle, and the jaw and the glands are felt. You should leave knowing which tissue is loose, in what proportion, and what each option would and would not change about it.
